César Augusto Rodríguez (1889-1972) is a leading representative of the literature Arequipa. Nicknamed "Atahualpa" by the poet Percy Gibson Arequipa, because their lines "represented in Peru" and her long black hair made him look like the Inca, decided to adopt this pseudonym.
Although its name is not well known in Lima, Cesar "Atahualpa" Rodriguez was considered by Manuel González Prada as "the new expression of national opera." Attended between 1908 and 1913, writers such as José María Eguren, Abraham Gonzales Valdelomar and the same Prada, who praised his work.
also was an important promoter of culture. In late 1916, with Percy Gibson, founded the group "The Coven" and published 4 issues of a magazine bearing the same name, initiatives were an encouragement to the intellectual life of Arequipa.
In 1917 he was appointed director of the Public Library of Arequipa, where he served until 1955.
His first book, The tower of the paradoxes (1926), was published by "Our America" \u200b\u200bin Buenos Aires, this was preceded by extensive work in both prose and poetry and essays. "The poetry of social Rodriguez had plenty of excitement and a strong regional accent," says the literary critic Tito Caceres Arequipa Pictures.
At the time, Caesar "Atahualpa" Rodriguez was a very popular author. In 1966, Congress awarded him the Order of the Sun of Peru and the Order of Congress, the highest existing laurels. Also, the Municipality of Arequipa was awarded the Gold Medal of the City.
The exhibition opens on Friday March 4 at 7 pm, in Rooms 15 and 16 of the CASLIT (Jr. Ancash 207, Lima). And be open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 pm through June. Admission is free.
